Surveillance of brucellosis in Yuhang district of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, 2005-2008

  • Objective To study the characteristics and pattern of brucellosis epidemic in population.Methods Cross-sectional survey was conducted on the brucellosis epidemic from 2005 to 2008.ResultsSixteen brucellosis cases were reported during 2005-2008.A total of 1143 people with occupational risk were under surveillance, the infection rate was 4.4%.All the 16 cases occurred during January-May and mainly distributed in Cangqian township, accounting for 75.0%.The type of infection among the people who contacted different host animal was different, and the infection rate among the people who contacted sheep from different region was different too.The sensitivity of rose Bengal plate test (RBPT) and tube agglutination test was same, the titer for brucellosis cases and infected persons by tube agglutination test was different.The etiological treatment was effective.Conclusion The surveillance of brucellosis indicated that the infection and disease mainly occurred among the people with occupational exposure and had its time and region distribution.The infection sources were the sick animals from other provinces, the transmission route was direct contact with sick animal.
